Mill Gap Farms
Virginia | Air Bnb Trip | 2019
Abel excitedly asked me if I wanted to know what the surprise for my birthday was.. I told him to keep it a secret. For scheduling purposes, he told me it was going to be for the weekend and to make sure to clear my schedule. I happily obliged. I packed our snacks, foods, the game Settlers of Catan and our outdoor clothing and got all loaded up into his Mazda as we set off to the grand adventure…The 6 hour drive of winding mountain roads mixed with some snow, ice and lots of rain and you have a drive you need to focus on. We listened to a lot of good music, a new playlist he created, and I believe a podcast or two

Yeah.
When we arrived at 3am the entire land was covered in fog. You could only see in front of you partially. We weren't sure where we were supposed to pull in -as in, which drive-way; and definitely went to the wrong one and circled around a few times. Finding the right driveway… we pulled up and on the left there was this red barn and on the right, a small cabin with yellow walls inside, a high vaulted ceiling, a cast iron fireplace… and a loft view of the downstairs with the bedroom upstairs.
To the red barn I ran in the fog!! It was so exciting. I open the barn door a crack (you never know what’s inside) and there was an alpaca staring at me! I ran over to show Abel and we had a good laugh about it.
And in the morning…
There was the most gorgeous view of rolling Virginian Hills that seemed as though they could only be from a storybook dream. There were spots of shadows from the clouds, rays of sun dancing on the sandy brown and dark brown colors covering the hills. It was so beautifully breathtaking. (I even did a dance).
